Wooramel Station

We stopped at Wooramel Station Riverside Retreat again on the way back down – we just love it there!

We took a bay with a bit more privacy back from the river’s edge and under a shady tree.

Each bay has a dedicated fire pit which was great to light up in the afternoon and relax around it. (BYO Wood or purchase at the office).

One of the great things about freedom camping is the size of the bays and the amount of space you have.  Wooramel excels at this.

The other thing to love at Wooramel is the showers.  Still using artesian hot water, but they are a half a water tank with a roof that is semi-open to the air.  Truly a unique bathing experience and a really good size too.

There is a cafe under construction but they also run food events at selected times of the year so we had a look at the big wood barbeque and cooking areas they use for these special meals.  Booking is recommended when they are on as they are very popular.

We had to have another relax in the artesian hot tubs again!

They had just been cleaned and were refilling.

For a small fee at the office, you can get a self-drive station tour.

We did the coast drive the previous year so decided to do the inland river exploring tour this time.

It was great to get out around the station and see some native wildlife and also the Hacketts Turkey Nest – an ingenious way of rounding up livestock and getting them into yards in such a vast space.

The drive back across the river bed just at the rear of the station was awesome! I want to do it again!
