The Perenjori Echidna

Photo of a gravel track with wildflowers

We headed east from Perenjori in search of adventure and new sights.

One of Sharon’s trip goals was to see an echidna in the wild.

We headed to a John Forrest lookout for a look around then down a gravel track back to the main road.

The road was well maintained as I believe it headed out to a small mine site nearby.

As we were heading down the road we spied a small dark shape moving on the road ahead.  Bingo! We had found our echidna.

As soon as we were within about 5 metres it just shut down and went into hiding mode (so we couldn’t see it….)

It helped get some great pictures while it just sat there and we hope it completed its journey across the road after we left.

[We were with it for about 20 minutes and in that time not one other car went past!]
