Quairading Caravan Park

Just over two hours from Perth is the town of Quairading.

For the Labour Day long weekend to avoid the crazy crowds heading south we decided to head east instead to Quairading.

We had read reviews on the recently updated Caravan Park and it didn’t disappoint.

The amenities were near new, clean and really well done.

The small camp kitchen offered enough room for a couple of people to find some respite if they wanted a change of scenery.

The park is only a couple of hundred metres from the main street which features a supermarket, cafe a couple of specialty stores and the local pub (of course).

As with most Wheatbelt towns, it’s a shadow of its former self and some interesting history can be viewed having a walk around.

It’s also home to the famous metallic bull statue outside the Shire Hall. [I won’t post a picture and spoil the surprise – it’s very impressive in real life!]

Next to the Caravan Park is the football oval (and showgrounds??) which is a great spot to walk the dog around.

On the other side of the Caravan Park is the town pool.  As part of our stay, we received free entry into the pool which was a nice refreshing bonus to have included.

You have to check in and pay at the shire office.  While you are there pick up a map of the local attractions.

There is a panel on it called “10 things to do in Quairading” – I think they stretched to reach 10!!!

Heading about 25 kilometres southeast of town we found a section of the old Rabbit Proof Fence.

It wasn’t a lot or in great condition but it gave a great insight into what a massive undertaking a structure was all those years ago.

The traps and structures were very inventive.

We then headed 8 kilometres north of town to Toapin Weir.

There is a great view from the top, plus it’s a good picnic spot or you can even camp overnight.

East of town we passed the Pink Lake (that wasn’t very pink) and then headed on to Kokerbin Rock.

Here you can climb the 122 metres to the top, enjoy a picnic or check out the old well on the western side.

On Sunday a leisurely 30-minute drive back towards the historic town of York we enjoyed a nice lunch at the equally historic Greenhill Inn.

Overall a very enjoyable stay in a nice town.
